Thanks to the Town Hall of Shipyard, the Cantabrian Federation of Piragüismo, the Real Federación Española de Piragüismo and the Dingonatura de Promesas Paralímpicas de Piragüismo.
The Astillero river became the epicenter of inclusive sport Saturday, 1 July 2023with the celebration of I Inclusive Nautical Festival – Legado María de Villota. Organized as a prelude to the Milla María de Villota in Santander, the event opened to the 11:00 a.m. mixing emotion, sport and solidarity.
The festival started with several tests:
Paracanoe National Open: K1 paracanoe, Va’a and K2 races inclusive.
Inclusive race of promotion for categories of child prebenjamin.
Inclusive Dragon Boat Regatta (two modalities: Dragons and Dragonucos), within the interclub circuit.
A popular race for double boats, closing maritime programming.
Water baptisms in dragon boat, especially aimed at minors with mitochondrial and neuromuscular pathologies, in collaboration with the Fundación Ana Carolina Díez‐Mahou.
Cantina and solidarity stand: La Crujiente offered a pack “La Crujiente + Inlusiva”, and during the day there was animation, music and festive atmosphere on the ground.
End with live music: the day ended with a concert by Tronco Band, raising the party on a cultural and social level.
The festival had a strong charitable character: the entire collection was devoted to acquisition of sports equipment and initiation for persons with disabilities. In the morning award ceremony, GOCCA Astillero participated, using sign language for a more inclusive ceremony.
The event was presented at the Town Hall of Shipyard on June 27, with the assistance of the mayor Javier Fernández SoberónThe Sports Councilor Alejandro Hoz and representatives of the Fundación Legado María de Villota, Cantabria Multisport, Fundación Ana Carolina Díez‐Mahou and Black Bird Productions.
Sovereign He stressed that the festival would be “an authentic party ... with a social character” and an occasion to “discover the continuous work” of the host club.
Hoz He defined it as an opportunity for “inclusive sport is life and hopefully this nautical festival will be consolidated.”
Agustín Calderón (Cantabria Multisport) highlighted the presence of near 300 athletes from clubs that covered from Galicia to Irún.
The I Inclusive Nautical Festival of Shipyard it was much more than a sports competition: it was a day of inclusion, social commitment and community celebration.
With competitions adapted for all ages, nautical baptisms, ground-based activities, live music and a solid solidarity structure, the event was more than successful in promoting sport as a tool of equality and social cohesion. Without a doubt, he left an unbeatable mark and laid the groundwork for becoming an annual calendar event.
